This Republic Day Take A Note Of The Scarcity Of Water In India

26th January, India’s Republic Day is almost here! Have you done anything special for your country in the recent few months? Do you plan to do anything on this day (except to maybe watch the parade)? If not, then maybe this year we should all take note of one of the ever-increasing problem which we haven’t yet taken much note of, but is going to be a huge problem for our next generations. Scarcity of Water! This Republic Day, Penguin Tank, a commercial water storage tank provider is going to draw you a clear picture of the current situation of water in India.

Rivers are drying up, sea levels are rising high, glaciers are melting, and the population is increasing. We all know all these things are happening leading to increased demand for water and decreased supply of water. But how much of us are really getting affected? Especially those living in cities in high rise buildings. Right now, the most who are getting affected are the rural areas of the country.

In states such as Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Punjab, Chennai and Uttar Pradesh there has been a great depletion in groundwater. Even though West Bengal has a smooth flow of water supply in most parts still now, some of the rural areas are starting to get affected. Coming to cities, Delhi, the capital of our country has a huge crisis of water supply. It has been even predicted that by this year, 2020, freshwater supply in Delhi may cease to exist. The only states that are still now least vulnerable are the North Eastern States, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Kerala. But suffice to say, sooner or later, they will follow too.

We all know the major reasons why this is happening apart from the fact that the population is increasing every day. Water sources are contaminated due to both people misusing the water and industries dumping toxic waste into rivers where the lack of government interference is not helping the cause at all. Agriculture is a big reason for putting a strain in the water source too.
But can we always blame everything on the government? There should be things that we as an individual person can do in our everyday life. For, example using commercial water storage tanks in business which will help you take note of how much water you are using every day and not allowing you to waste any. There are a few things you can do at your home to save water.

• Don’t keep the tap open when brushing your teeth.
• Don’t run water when hand-washing dishes.
• Shut off your sprinkler system when it’s raining.
• Turn off the water when shampooing your hair.
• Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when full.

These are suggestions that most of us know about but fail to give much thought on a daily basis. So, this Republic Day, take a pledge to do all these consciously, if not for yourself, then for your kids.

Good And Bad Effects Of Algae In The Water And Ecosystem

Good And Bad Effects Of Algae In The Water And Ecosystem

Have you ever noticed when a pond water or river water gets contaminated? It’s not the plants or fishes that harm the water and destroy the ecosystem. It’s always the toxic chemicals or other outside factors that affect the water and the ecosystem. There are so many living beings forming an ecosystem. Even the small microscopic, unicellular organisms that grow in groups play some role in the ecosystem. These are called algae. There are several types of algae of different sizes. They tend to have both good and bad effects on the different type of water surfaces.

Coming to bad effects one place where you should never let algae grow are domestic or commercial water storage tanks. Some of them can be quite toxic and they deplete the oxygen in the water. If you drink that water you are bound to get sick or worse. Apart from domestic or commercial water storage tanks they also grow in ponds and lakes used for fish farming. Plants growing in ponds and lakes can also die due to these toxic algae. Even though swimming pools don’t get the same problem as they are maintained regularly, but in aquaculture, this becomes a huge problem and makes the fishes poisonous which in turn can harm us.

On the other hand, there are several benefits of algae too, especially for the ecosystem. The non-toxic algae usually generate about 50% of the oxygen that is available in Earth and simultaneously removes carbon dioxide from the environment too. They are used as soil conditioners, fertilisers, and cattle feed. They produce energy-rich oils which are a great alternative for fossil fuels. These biofuels do not have any additional carbon dioxide, unlike other fuels. They are a rich source of many vitamins and micronutrients and therefore have high nutritional value. Some algal varieties are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are preferred by vegetarians as fish oil is the only alternative source of the same. Algae eliminate the need for toxic chemicals in the process and help in treating sewage.

So, as much as you should take care that algae are not growing in your domestic or commercial water storage tanks, you should also take care of the ecosystem of water bodies surrounding you are maintained properly. But either way, the benefits clearly outweigh the harmful effects, especially in large water bodies. It is in our best interest to not destroy the ecosystem by using external factors.

Why And How Should You Keep Your Domestic Water Storage Tank Clean?

Why And How Should You Keep Your Domestic Water Storage Tank Clean?

Your domestic water storage tank is something that helps you run the whole house and the sole supplier of water throughout your home. So, if the water from your domestic water storage tank becomes infected somehow, you will have a disaster in your hand. This is why it is important to clean the tank every few months.

Water is the easiest place for germ growth

Stored water or standing water is the best place for germs to grow and multiply. If you don’t clean your domestic water storage tank it will become contaminated.

Infected water may cause skin problems

If the water in your tank is contaminated or infected it will cause various skin diseases. While taking a bath or even only washing your hand and face can cause skin irritation or allergies. Too much hair fall is also a result of such cases.

The water tank can start smelling over time

These germs or bacteria that are growing inside your domestic water storage tanks can produce many kinds of chemicals and gases. These chemicals will, in turn, produce a foul smell in the tank and the water coming through your taps.

Algae actively grow on the inner body of the domestic water storage tank

Algae can grow on any wet or moist surfaces. If not maintained properly your tank will get filled with algae which can also contaminate the water. It is also not good for the inner body of the tank.

Contamination in water can result in illness

If you depend on your water tank for drinking, then infection in the water tank can make you ill. A lot of diseases like typhoid, diarrhoea, etc. are said to be all water-borne diseases.

There are several steps to how you should clean your domestic water storage tanks.

  • First, you need to clean the area surrounding the tank and top of the.
  • Then disinfect the tools that you will need to clean the tank.
  • But before you start cleaning inside, you will need to drain out the water and sludge. You can do this with the help of a sludge pump.
  • Next, scrub the inside of the tank to remove dirt, fungus, sediment, etc.
  • Using a high-pressure jet, wash the walls, ceiling and floor of the after scrubbing.
  • You need to ensure that all the dirt is gone. So to make sure, use a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dirt.
  • Now, this vacuumed tank needs to be disinfected with the help of an anti-bacterial spray or liquid bleach.
  • Now as the tank is all done fill it again with water. This water when running through the taps will also disinfect the water pipes
  • Again drain all the water from your domestic water storage tank and keep it empty to dry.
  • Finally, after drying, you can use the clean tank again.

If your domestic water storage tank hasn’t been cleaned for quite a long time, then clean it today, before you or someone from your family becomes sick.

Advantages Of Plastic Water Storage Tank Over Concrete Water Tank

Both water and water storage tank are very important in our life. In recent years, it has been seen that all high rise buildings are installing a concrete water tank. If you have a home of your own you might prefer plastic storage water tank. So, which one is more important? Granted, there are some uses of concrete water tanks but there are a lot of advantages of plastic water storage tanks.

Easy To Maneuver Into Position

Plastic water storage tanks are quite lightweight. Installing and transporting of these tanks is quite easy due to its weight. Unlike a concrete tank which is basically so heavy that it needs to be moved and installed with the help of a crane, plastic tanks can be easily moved with hands without much difficulty.

Relatively Straightforward To Retrofit Outlets

It is not possible to retrofit new outlets in a concrete tank. If your plastic water storage tank is made of concrete, you can not link it to another tank if there is a shortage of water. But on the other hand, you can link multiple tanks with piping if you use plastic tanks.

Able To Withstand Earthquakes

As plastic water storage tanks are a bit flexible it can easily withstand earthquakes. Concrete is more prone to cracks or major damages during an earthquake. The final product is more durable and less likely to fall apart as the rotomoulding process bonds plastic through speed and heat, with the use of a mould.

Cost-Effective

A manufacturer produces many items, simultaneously, at the same time as it is normally manufactured in a batch production. This makes the cost per item very affordable for any individual. Also, the rotomolding process itself is a quite cost-effective manufacturing procedure in contrast to the other tank manufacturing process. In addition, there is less investment in plastic water storage tanks as they may last longer than others. Therefore, it reduces the cost of maintenance, transport, and installation.

Easier to Maintain

In order to counteract the leaching of lime into the water concrete tanks should be given a cement wash every few years. Plastic water storage tanks require minimal maintenance apart from removing sediment build-up every few years or as required.

So, when choosing the type of tank for your purposes, we would recommend using plastic water storage tanks.
