After getting a tank installed, it simply sits in one place and does not move or comes in our daily eye contact. Over the years, it is forgotten by most of us. Our water storage tank that sits on the terrace or below the ground of our domestic or commercial property needs regular maintenance. Tank maintenance means water quality inspection. Good quality water is directly proportional to good health. We can call it a set and forget project that may lead to building up sediments settle in the bottom of the tank, growth of algae, and other water contaminants. Water is the most important ingredient in life. A single day without water is impossible as we simply cannot survive without the same. Apart from regular cleaning and inspecting a tank, it is also important to keep it clear. In winter, the most common problem is the freezing of water tanks. This happens in mostly hilly areas. • Drain the tank completely through the outlet valve. Do not throw the water and use it for cleaning the exterior of home or gardening etc.

• Clean the interior walls by scrubbing with the help of a stiff brush or high-pressure water jet. Make a mixture of detergent and hot water for cleaning and make sure to rinse it very well.

• After the scrubbing and cleaning of the interior of the tank are done, it should be rinsed very well. It can be done using a high-pressure hose or water jet or just fill the tank with hot water and leave it for a few hours. Drain the water well and repeat it several times if required.

• Disinfect the tank properly by chlorination. Make sure to measure the volume of water before adding the chlorine. Drain the disinfecting water but not in a fish-bearing stream as a high concentration of chlorine is toxic to them.

• Fill the tank with water and allow to stand for at least 30 minutes. Empty the tank again. And the tank is ready for use.

• Fill the tank with clean water and test the quality of the tank. Send it to an accredited laboratory for testing the bacterial compliance immediately.

  • Scrub the inside of the tank properly as the pollutants stick to the walls of the tank over time.
  • Use a sludge pumping equipment to remove the sludge deposit from the surface of the tank.
  • After having scrubbed and sludged thoroughly, wash the interior of the tank using a hose pipe with a strong force.
  • Your tank is clean and ready to be filled with water.
