How to Select the Correct Size of the Water Tank For Your Home?

Due to the scarcity of water in different regions of India, most homeowners have a private water tank of their own installed in their houses. The water stored in these tanks are most useful when there is a shortage of supply of water for various reasons. To make sure that you have enough water in those times, the foremost consideration is the size and capacity of the tank. Choosing the correct size of the tank is important and make sure to consider the following before making an investment.

Consider the available space in your home:

This is the first thing that needs to be considered while selecting the tank for your home. Water tanks are available in many sizes ranging from few hundred liters to thousands of liters. The bigger the tank, the more space it will need. If you have enough space, then you can install a bigger tank easily but in case of limited space, you will have to settle for a smaller tanks

Consider how you will use the water:

Another most important consideration is how are you going to use the water. You will have to calculate the total household usage of water on a daily basis. To calculate, you need to check the number of family members along with the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and outdoor water usages such as car washing, pet washing, gardening etc. Considering the different uses altogether, determine the capacity of your water tank.

Consider how much water the tank needs to store:

Another important consideration is how much water you need to flow into the tank and how much rainfall you get in your area. The larger the roof, the more water will flow. There is a standard formula to calculate the same which is the roof area times the amount of average annual rainfall received in the area. This gives the maximum amount of water you need to store.

After having considered the above, contact Penguin Tank to know the best choice as per the apace that you have. Their tanks come with a standard number of features best suitable for all household requirements.

It's time to learn to conserve water in the bathroom.

In the previous month’s blog : we learned to conserve water in the kitchen.

Water is not a free resource. Therefore, it is important to save water as much as and wherever we can. Let us learn to save water in the bathroom and lower our water bills by following these simple tips.

Save water while bathing:

While taking bath, fill the bucket halfway to avoid a water spill over. Do not wait for the water to get hot before plugging the drain. First, drain the plug and then adjust the temperature as the bucket fills. Even then if it takes too long for the water to heat up, save the cold water and use it for watering plants later on.

Install water saving shower heads:

Older showerheads flow at 5 to 7 gallons per minute while low-flow showerheads deliver 2.5 gallons per minute or less. Always keep an eye out for these types while buying a new shower head.

Spend less time in the shower:

This is the place where we waste maximum water and also where we can save gallons of water. One minute of showering represents up to seven gallons of water. Turn off the shower while lathering up and washing hair.

Save water while shaving:

Avoid using running water to rinse off shavings. Collect some water in a mug or so for cleaning the razor after you are done.

Install faucet aerators:

Older faucets use from 3 to 7 gallons per minute. Low-flow faucet aerators use a maximum of 1.5 gallons of water per minute. Attach there aerators to all the existing faucets.

Check for leaks regularly:

Check for all faucets, pipes, toilets etc regularly for leaks and slow drips. It may not seem like much but even a small drip throughout day and night can add up to a waste of plenty of water. Get it fixed immediately.

Turn off the faucet:

Do not leave the faucet open and water running while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing hands and face. Make it a habit to turn off the faucet when not in use.

Reuse bath towels:

Do not wash bath towels after every use, instead hang them to dry to be reused daily and still feel dry and fresh.

We are about to reveal some good reasons to replace Metal Tanks with Plastic Water Tanks

There are many options when it comes to the type of water tanks – steel, concrete, fiberglass, plastic and so on. We need to be careful while selecting its variety depending upon how we are going to use the same. However, each and every option has its own advantages and disadvantages but the most popular ones are plastic and metal tanks. These two options have been considered equal for many years but now metal tanks are being replaced with plastic tanks for a number of good reasons. Let us discuss in detail.

Unlike metal tanks, plastic water storage tanks are corrosion resistant. Metal tanks can corrode and pollute the water. On the other hand, plastic water tanks are manufactured using high-quality food-grade polyethylene that protects the plastic from corroding and UV stabilizers from the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun.

As poly tanks are light in weight, therefore it is easier to install. Metal tanks look good when they are in position but it is difficult to set up or move them. Every poly tank is supplied with built-in lifting lugs to make them easy to move. They just require a flat spot with nothing sharp underneath. On the other hand, a metal tank needs a lot of preparation including a concrete base and steel rings before installation.

Poly tanks are manufactured using food grade plastic which set a standard of purity and safety of the water. While in the case of metal tanks, spray on the polymer is used that forms the plastic lining of the tank with a high risk of corroded material.

Plastic tanks are manufactured using the rotational molding process from highly durable and strong polyethylene plastic with no side seams or joints. But this is not the case with metal tanks. Therefore poly tanks last longer than metal tanks.

Poly tank is more versatile than a metal tank when it comes to shapes and sizes. Plastic tanks are most suitable for smaller spaces of most urban constructions as it comes in a range of sizes from 500 liters to 5000 liters. For example, plastic loft tanks are best suited for kitchen lofts. Metal tanks are also available in different sizes but the basic shape is circular with a coned roof which makes it unsuitable for limited spaces.

At Penguin Tank, we manufacture a variety of above ground plastic water tanks in different colors to suit your requirement. Contact us today for a plastic rotomolded tank that fits your needs.
