Penguin Tank Wishes A Very Happy Eco-Friendly And Safe Durga Puja

The month of October is a very special time for the people of West Bengal and other surrounding states as they start preparing for the biggest festival, Durga Puja. Every year, so much effort and money go into making this festival a success. But, this year things might be a bit different due to the pandemic. Although there has been no announcement of restrictions during the puja and the government has given the green signal, but there are still some necessary precautions that need to be taken. This is why, Penguin Tank, a supplier of plastic water storage tanks in West Bengal, is wishing everyone a happy Durga Puja and would like to urge people to celebrate it in a different way this year.

Take Necessary Precautions

If you are adamant to go outside in the crowd in this pandemic, you should at least take all the necessary precautions. Don’t forget your mask, gloves, face shield, and sanitizer while dressing up for the festival. Carry these things at all times with you and use them diligently. If you are thinking of pandal hopping, make sure to maintain distance from the crowd. At least for this year, avoid eating street foods and don’t drink water from anywhere. Carry water with you at all times. As soon as you come back wash everything immediately and take a shower.

Celebrate Eco-Friendly Puja

If you want to do something different this year, then try the concept of eco-friendly puja. Not only you will be safe from COVID-19 but also while you are at it, you will be saving the environment. There are several ways to do that. Try using eco-friendly decorations for the puja. This includes biodegradable materials like natural colours, clay, flowers, etc. It is already expected that this year the number of pandals will decrease as not everyone is willing to take the risk of infection by organising the puja. But, if you are involved, you can make the idol eco-friendly too. Also, try out the option of artificial immersion tank which you can use at the end of the puja to immerse the idols. Many small towns already use it to limit water pollution in the water bodies.

So, whether you want to celebrate by getting fully involved in the puja or by playing it safe, remember to take precautions at all times. Most importantly, try to avoid contact with others as much as possible and avoid outside food and water. You can only trust the water from your plastic water storage tank during this time.

Happy Durga Puja To All!!

What Significance Does Mahalaya Hold In Durga Puja of West Bengal?

Mahalaya is an auspicious occasion starts seven days before the Durga Puja. It is the end of Pitra Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha. This day marks the beginning of Goddess Durga’s journey to Earth along with her family of Ganesha, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kartikeya. Today is Mahalaya and the countdown for Durga Puja has begun.

There is a story that relates to the Mahalaya festival to Goddess Durga. This day is considered as the period when the Goddess Durga killed the asuras to bring peace in the world. Since only a woman was capable of killing the demon king, Mahisasura. Therefore, female power or shakti took the form of Goddess Durga to kill him. After a fierce battle and with the help of celestial weapons given by all the Gods to her, she killed the demon. That is why she is also known as Mahisasuramardini. This ar went on for nine days and therefore these nine days are celebrated in the form of Navaratri.

Therefore Mahalaya is celebrated in West Bengal to remember how Goddess Durga got all her powers by all the Gods and was sent to kill the asuras.

Since the 1930s, Mahalaya has become synonymous with the All India Radio Programme ‘ Mahishasura Mardini’. It is a beautiful recitation from the scriptural verses of ‘Chandi Kavya’. For nearly six decades, the entire Bengal rise early in the morning of the Mahalaya day to tune in to the “Mahisasura Mardini’ broadcast. In the voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Mahalaya recital for two thrilling hours is aired on the radio that mesmerizes every household into welcoming Maa Durga with open arms. It is scripted by Bani Kumar, music is composed by Pankaj Mullick, and the songs are rendered by famous singers of yesteryears, including Hemant Kumar and Arati Mukherjee.

This Durga Puja, Clean and Disinfect Your Domestic Water Storage Tank Before You Welcome Maa

Durga Puja is about to begin and we are sure you cannot wait to welcome Maa Durga. You must be doing a lot of preparations at home to celebrate the festival with your loved ones. Cleaning your house, doing lots of shopping for yourself, friends and family members, renovating your home, buying new items of furniture and home decors etc. While doing all these preparations, hope you are not forgetting something that is really important!

Yes, we refer to the water storage tank that provides you with an uninterrupted supply of water throughout day and night. When we are focussing on each and every corner of our home then why not consider cleaning and disinfecting our water storage tank on this special occasion. It is not as tedious as it seems and by following some simple tips, it can be easily cleaned and disinfected. Let us see how.

• Drain the tank completely through the outlet valve. Do not throw the water and use it for cleaning the exterior of home or gardening etc.

• Clean the interior walls by scrubbing with the help of a stiff brush or high-pressure water jet. Make a mixture of detergent and hot water for cleaning and make sure to rinse it very well.

• After the scrubbing and cleaning of the interior of the tank are done, it should be rinsed very well. It can be done using a high-pressure hose or water jet or just fill the tank with hot water and leave it for a few hours. Drain the water well and repeat it several times if required.

• Disinfect the tank properly by chlorination. Make sure to measure the volume of water before adding the chlorine. Drain the disinfecting water but not in a fish-bearing stream as a high concentration of chlorine is toxic to them.

• Fill the tank with water and allow to stand for at least 30 minutes. Empty the tank again. And the tank is ready for use.

• Fill the tank with clean water and test the quality of the tank. Send it to an accredited laboratory for testing the bacterial compliance immediately.

So, do you still think that it is a difficult task and ignore to clean your domestic water storage tank. Actually, it is not. Start with the tank cleaning this Puja as the safety of water comes first.
