The month of October is a very special time for the people of West Bengal and other surrounding states as they start preparing for the biggest festival, Durga Puja. Every year, so much effort and money go into making this festival a success. But, this year things might be a bit different due to the pandemic. Although there has been no announcement of restrictions during the puja and the government has given the green signal, but there are still some necessary precautions that need to be taken. This is why, Penguin Tank, a supplier of plastic water storage tanks in West Bengal, is wishing everyone a happy Durga Puja and would like to urge people to celebrate it in a different way this year.
Take Necessary Precautions
If you are adamant to go outside in the crowd in this pandemic, you should at least take all the necessary precautions. Don’t forget your mask, gloves, face shield, and sanitizer while dressing up for the festival. Carry these things at all times with you and use them diligently. If you are thinking of pandal hopping, make sure to maintain distance from the crowd. At least for this year, avoid eating street foods and don’t drink water from anywhere. Carry water with you at all times. As soon as you come back wash everything immediately and take a shower.
Celebrate Eco-Friendly Puja
If you want to do something different this year, then try the concept of eco-friendly puja. Not only you will be safe from COVID-19 but also while you are at it, you will be saving the environment. There are several ways to do that. Try using eco-friendly decorations for the puja. This includes biodegradable materials like natural colours, clay, flowers, etc. It is already expected that this year the number of pandals will decrease as not everyone is willing to take the risk of infection by organising the puja. But, if you are involved, you can make the idol eco-friendly too. Also, try out the option of artificial immersion tank which you can use at the end of the puja to immerse the idols. Many small towns already use it to limit water pollution in the water bodies.
So, whether you want to celebrate by getting fully involved in the puja or by playing it safe, remember to take precautions at all times. Most importantly, try to avoid contact with others as much as possible and avoid outside food and water. You can only trust the water from your plastic water storage tank during this time.
Happy Durga Puja To All!!
Our festivals are incomplete without some good food and mouth-watering sweets. So invite your family and friends over and throw a house party. Treat your guests with delicious homemade snacks and sweets to make it a fun filled Holi celebration. Play some Holi related songs and dance it out on your favourite Bollywood beats. Have a blast!
Rangoli is not only meant for Diwali but you make one during Holi too. Since it is a festival of colors, organize a Rangoli making competition for adults and kids. Active participation by all will add a fun element in the celebration.
Nature has provided us with colorful flowers that are skin friendly, soft and degradable. In fact, it is the best alternative to harmful chemical colors. After you are done with celebration, collect it and dump it around plants and trees. Tesu, a saffron-colored flower is used to play flower Holi in many regions of India such as Lucknow, Pushkar etc.
Opt for a Tilak Holi and keep it dry. Prepare your own homemade colors using saffron, sandalwood or turmeric and apply tilak on the forehead and also some on the cheeks to get the feel of Holi. It will work wonders for your skin and prevent useless wastage of water.
If you want to get the feel of wet Holi, hit the beach. If you stay in a place where there is no beach, plan a short vacation with friends and family to a nearby beach destination. Enjoy with friends and family at a seaside without using any harmful colors.
