We have learned to test the water quality at home in the previous month’s blog here: Afraid of Water Pollution? Learn to test water quality At Your Home
Now you know how to test the quality of water and do it conveniently at home. But why is it required? Have you wondered what is the importance of good water quality? Let us find out.
The water that we consume is directly proportional to good health. Bad water or contaminated water is bad for our health and is the primary reason behind many health problems. Good quality water is not only important for us humans but also good for home appliances that we use on an everyday basis as well. Apart from human uses, its quality is equally important to animals and plants as well. Our surroundings and the environment suffers drastically when the quality of water is low.
What exactly is the water quality? Water quality refers to the chemical, physical, biological, radiological and aesthetic(smell and appearance) characteristics of water. Water has many different uses such as supplying drinking water, recreation uses(swimming, boating, parks etc.), industrial processes, irrigation, navigation, shipping, wildlife habitats, protection of aquatic ecosystems, production of edible fish, shellfish and crustaceans, scientific study and education etc. Therefore, you can understand how strongly contaminated water can affect our surroundings and environment. In addition, the commercial and recreation value of water sources might diminish as well.
How does water become contaminated? The hydrological cycle moves water from the air to the earth and this process repeats. It acts as a natural solvent that dissolves everything it touches. Therefore, water is never pure and it contains contaminants such as bacteria, wastewater, animal waste, chemicals, detergents, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, air pollution, sulfur from smokestack, lead from pipe solder, hard minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, and other minerals such as arsenic, limestone and many more.
A water storage tank that stores water on a regular basis to meet all our water storage needs daily does not remain unaffected too. A water storage tank goes through a lot such as changing climatic conditions, dust, dirt, etc. Therefore, it is important to use the best quality plastic water storage tank in India and clean the tank on a regular basis. The above-mentioned contaminants can affect the quality of water inside the water storage tanks as well. Therefore, take care of water by using a good domestic and commercial water storage tank and maintain its quality.
