In the previous month’s blog : we learned to conserve water in the kitchen.

Water is not a free resource. Therefore, it is important to save water as much as and wherever we can. Let us learn to save water in the bathroom and lower our water bills by following these simple tips.

Save water while bathing:

While taking bath, fill the bucket halfway to avoid a water spill over. Do not wait for the water to get hot before plugging the drain. First, drain the plug and then adjust the temperature as the bucket fills. Even then if it takes too long for the water to heat up, save the cold water and use it for watering plants later on.

Install water saving shower heads:

Older showerheads flow at 5 to 7 gallons per minute while low-flow showerheads deliver 2.5 gallons per minute or less. Always keep an eye out for these types while buying a new shower head.

Spend less time in the shower:

This is the place where we waste maximum water and also where we can save gallons of water. One minute of showering represents up to seven gallons of water. Turn off the shower while lathering up and washing hair.

Save water while shaving:

Avoid using running water to rinse off shavings. Collect some water in a mug or so for cleaning the razor after you are done.

Install faucet aerators:

Older faucets use from 3 to 7 gallons per minute. Low-flow faucet aerators use a maximum of 1.5 gallons of water per minute. Attach there aerators to all the existing faucets.

Check for leaks regularly:

Check for all faucets, pipes, toilets etc regularly for leaks and slow drips. It may not seem like much but even a small drip throughout day and night can add up to a waste of plenty of water. Get it fixed immediately.

Turn off the faucet:

Do not leave the faucet open and water running while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing hands and face. Make it a habit to turn off the faucet when not in use.

Reuse bath towels:

Do not wash bath towels after every use, instead hang them to dry to be reused daily and still feel dry and fresh.
