Is India facing the worst water crisis in its history?

Recently, this news was the talk of the town and every news channels were debating about the water shortage that has hit our nation badly. According to a survey, June 2018 faced an acute water crisis in the entire history. This report has surveyed a loss of two lakhs of Indians lives due to a shortage or contamination of water. India is an agricultural country and around 8% of water is being used for irrigation. Due to the scarcity of water, Indian irrigation system does not remain unaffected too. According to a report, it is estimated that around 20 Indian cities might run out of groundwater by 2020.
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh faced a major water crisis in the month of June as reported by NITI Aayog. After having created an awareness among people, there were many measures taken to control the water crisis. The water management system has already been initiated by them in different sectors. Some of them include drinking water, irrigation, groundwater, restoration of water bodies including different government policies. In this initiative, Gujarat has topped the composite water management index followed by Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Speaking of the hilly regions, Tripura has topped followed by Assam, Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.
Water management is the primary responsibility of all the citizens of India. If we consider and treat water well, this shortage can be minimized. There are many ways in which we can save water and make sure that the water does not get wasted. Water is spent maximum in our daily household work. It is important to stop any kind of water wastage that we come across and start to store water for the worst times.

A good quality domestic or commercial water storage tank ensures a smooth and an uninterrupted supply of water throughout day and night. There are different sources from where the water can be stored in these water tanks. Rainwater is one of them. India has received heavy rainfall this year and many regions have suffered a huge loss due to this such as Kerala. Therefore, correct measures and provisions should be taken to store rainwater.
