Why does plastic water storage tank color even matter?
Algae contamination and water temperature depends on the color of the tank. There are many scientific reasons involved behind colors that, when put to good use can bring a lot of advantages to your water storage.
What are the different colors of poly water tanks made of?
The colors used for a poly water tank can either come from a single pigment or a mixture of pigments. There are two main sources from where these colors are derived. They are – mined mineral and lab-made chemicals. Both these production methods result in the formation of different pigments. These pigments can be combined with uncolored polythene which is then used in rotational molding.
How color is added to polythene water tanks?
Firstly, polythene, pigments, and additives are processed through an extruder to create an encapsulated color. Now, this is added to carrier resin. This encapsulated color is again mixed with colored polythene. This creates a colored compound which is again processed through a mill. Now, a colored polythene powder is formed which is used in the roto-molding process. The colors that are added to the polythene should be durable enough so that they do not degrade when exposed to high heat during the process of roto-molding.
How can water tank colors affect water temperature?
The light from the sun is absorbed by the pigments and then the energy is converted into heat. If the color of the tank is dark then the water will get hot during the day. A carbon black color water tank, at 26 degrees Celsius can reach the highest consistent temperature during the day at 63 degrees Celsius. For tank colors of phthalocyanine green and phthalocyanine blue, the temperature of the tank can rise up to 62 degrees Celsius.
